On Saturday 14th July the Darlington Village Hall was transformed into a French cafe with red, white and blue streamers, balloons, the French national flag and romantic French music. Many members, together with their families and friends celebrated this French National Holiday.
We prepared French onion soup, a selection of cheeses, pate, quiches and desserts served with baguettes from our local Patisserie. A French singalong was followed by a French themed quiz.
Why did we organise such an event one may ask? It came about after a mutual discussion between our club and SI Ipsae in Mauritius, when it was decided that it would be a good idea to celebrate our mutual national holidays and use the events as fundraisers for each others projects. In this case all money raised will go to SI Ipsae’s Environment Programme supporting Water Aid in Nigeria. This is a 5 year project to provide safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene education for several villages in the Benue region of Nigeria.
