Darlington Review – July 2008
July 27, 2008
At out July meeting we had a guest speaker Julie Guelfi, from Samaritan’s Purse. She spoke to us about their ‘OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD’. There are 8 million boxes sent out world wide, to 105 countries requesting them. Australia and New Zealand send boxes to South East Asia and Pacific Islands. Julie gave a DVD presentation on how the boxes are distributed to and received by the children.
The Christmas Box Motto: – 1 box, 1 child, 1 time.
Samaritans Purse also provides shelter, schools, organises sports and leadership training programmes. Through their programs 1500 wells have provided in Cambodia.
Several members of SI of Helena attended the cheque presentation to Western Australia Assistance Dogs (WAAD). Gwen Dasborough and Lesley Burridge from WAAD accepted the cheque from President elect Kim Kennedy. The money was raised at Helena’s Fashion Parade.
