Darlington Review – October 2009
October 25, 2009
Soroptimist International of Helena held a very successful Quiz night, at the beginning of September. There were lots of games with great prizes to win. We raised $1530.00 for our Health and Education projects.
At our September meeting our guest speaker was Ellie Wilkie, who is an artist and poet. She had bought along several of her painting and read us the poem that, that painting had inspired, as well she read other poems from her books. She also told us about some of her life and how she came to come to Australia and how she became a poet. It was an entertaining time as we could relate to the poems.
On Sunday 20, several of our members were at Trek the Trail to hand out the passports to the people walking and riding the trail. Thankfully the weather, while not brilliant was much better than last year.
Our members are now organising their shoe boxes for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child, ready for our next meeting.
Next we are helping with the Zig Zag parade on 25 October. The theme this year is Silver Links.
We have made some changes to our meetings. We are now going to have a Dinner/Social meeting on the 1st Tuesday of the month at the Hale Tavern function room, Hale Rd, Forrestfield, 6pm for 6.30pm start.
Our business/executive meetings will be at the Woodlupine Community Centre, Woolworths Drive, Forrestfield. Meetings are on the third Tuesday of the month.
