Darlington Review – December 2009

December 22, 2009

On Sunday 25th October our members were joined by members from SI on the Terrace to help with the parade at the Zig Zag festival. There were a few no shows but there were a good number of groups in the parade. The kite man was a hit again with the children as he swooped his kite to almost touching distance. We were last in the parade with our decorated Ute with our members walking in front.

At our November dinner meeting Jo Randle from Madjitil Moorna spoke to us about the choir and how it was formed last year for the Zig Zag Festival. The choir sings Aboriginal songs. They are trying to break down barriers and build bridges through the healing of song. She told us about their trip to Halls Creek, working with the children there and the concert that was held at the end. They hope to return to Halls Creek in May next year. As well as Jo, Jan Owen spoke. She told us about her husband, who is a dentist, checking the children’s teeth and showing them how to brush their teeth properly.

Madjitil Moorna meet Mondays at the Anderson Road Centre.
6.30(cuppa), 7 – 8.30pm(sing) New voices welcome.
