Darlington Review – November 2008
At our October meeting we had a guest speaker from the John Fawcett Foundation.
Pat Emery explained how the Foundation was started originally by Rotary and their Mobile eye clinic travelling around the Balinese country side doing cataract removal and restoring their sight. John Fawcett was recovering from an illness in Bali and became interested in the program and has helped it to develop as part of his Foundation. As well as the mobile eye clinic, there is the Assistance to the desperately ill where sick people are brought to Australia for medical treatment. The foundation also runs an Education Assistance Program. The John Fawcett Foundation and its Indonesian counterpart, Yayasan Kemanusiaan Indonesia have been running this program since 2000, to assist families who are unable to pay the school fees for their children to attend school. Donations to the Program are tax deductable. Pat Emery is the Treasurer, donations can be sent to him.
