News – January 2008

With the finish of the old year and the start of the new we have had some old serving members retire. Shelia Lungley and Jo McMullan, who were charter members. Also retiring are Joan Perich and Olga Bondi while not charter members both ladies have been members for a long time. All ladies have held many and various positions within the club. To the ladies retiring I would like to say a big thank-you for your years of service and friendship and we will miss you.

We have had our annual general meeting with members taking on new positions with in the club. Krys Kerr is continuing on as President for another year.

We are now getting into our projects for this year. We are going to be supporting a women’s refuge in the Kimberley region. The co-ordinator at the refuge has indicated their greatest need at this stage is for bed linen and towels. Kerry Bastian will be collecting these items. If, like me you need to clean out your linen cupboard, here is a good cause where these items will be appreciated. Kerry is available on 92996560.

Val Ludemann is no longer collecting items as she is about to move house.

Robyn Cain is in New York at the moment attending the 52nd session of the Commission for the Status of Women at the United Nations as part of her job as Assistant Program Director with Soroptimist International of the South West Pacific.

Upcoming Events

• SOS day- Saturday of Service. 8 March . This a Soroptimist International day where all club in the world get to and do a day of service to their local community. We will be cooking a barbeque lunch for the residents at Greenmount Gardens.
• IWD – International Woman Day. Members will be attending the breakfast to be held at Burswood on Swan. 7 March.
• Soroptimist International of Western Australia Annual general meeting. 15 March.
• Our club Birthday. 13 April
• Fashion Parade. 18 May
• Conference of clubs of the South West Pacific, Chang Rai, 6-9 June
