School of St. Yared, Ethiopia
On 23rd February I attended a fund raiser with Mairie O’Neil for a truly remarkable family endeavouring to provide a school bus for the children at St. Yared School in Ethiopia.
The evening at South Perth Yacht Club was organised by the Rotary Club of Booragoon. Soroptimists from Perth and Canning also attended.
Di Roberts and her grandchildren Janna and Georgia spoke of their tremendous experiences, one of which was the sharing between grandmother and grandchildren.
Di Roberts orginally went to the Catherine Hamlyn Fistular Clinic with Janna just seven years ago and since then developments have extended to the Mother Theresa Aids Orphange and the Hope For Children , which in turn has developed into the establishment of a school for the children and now a bus is needed for transporting the children from remote areas to the school. The phylosphy of the family being “enpower the brightest and the poor to get an education”.
Di Roberts is an inspiration to us all and has a remarkable ‘presence’. I believe that Soroptimists internationally should be supporting this exceptional family.
