What We Do

Projects for 2010

Soroptimist International Programme Focus Objectives
For 2007 – 2011

  1. Eliminate poverty and gender discrimination through ensuring women’s full social and economic rights
  2. End human trafficking and all forms of violence against women and girls
  3. Ensure access to health care for women and girls
  4. Support programmes and policies that eliminate HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis and other major diseases
  5. Improve access to clean water, sanitation and essential food resources
  6. Mitigate the effects of climate change and integrate sustainability into personal choices and government policies and programmes
  7. Meet the needs of women and girls during and after armed conflicts and disasters
  8. Promote peaceful conflict resolution, inter-cultural and inter-racial tolerance and condemn genocide and terrorism
  9. Ensure equal access to education and training for women and girls throughout their lifespan
  10. Assure women’s advancement in management, politics and decision-making

For 2010 Soroptimist International of Helena have selected the following causes to support:

Local

  • Providing support and advocacy for West Australian Assistance Dogs (WAADs) – www.waadinc.org.au
  • Delivering 2nd hand magazines to St Bartholemews – www.stbarts.org.au
  • Support Koolkuna Women’s Refuge & a member is on the Eastern Region Services Network Board – www.koolkuna.org.au
  • Support Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) – www.rfdswa.org.au
  • Sponsor the Dibbler through an Endangered Species Programme at Perth Zoo – www.perthzoo.wa.gov.au
  • Trek the Trail – Assist with registration of walkers
  • Zig Zag Festival – Assist with organisation of street parade
  • SOS Day – Saturday of Service – Provide morning tea and interaction with elderly residents at Cypress Gardens High Care Facility in Greenmount
  • Kalamunda Youth Swing Band – Provide an annual scholarship for an upcoming musician

International

Quadrennial (International) Project 2007 – 2011

  • Project SIerra – a Family and a Future, supporting women caring for children in extreme poverty and providing a caring secure family home for children who are alone or at risk of abandonment in Sierre Leone – www.projectsierra.org
