What We Do
Projects for 2011
Programme Goals for the quadrennium 2011-2015:
Goal 1: Soroptimist International will improve the lives and status of women and girls through education, empowerment or enabling opportunities.
Goal 1 Objectives:
- Increase access to formal and non-formal learning opportunities.
- Improve access to economic empowerment and sustainable opportunities for the employment of women.
- Eliminate violence against women and girls and ensure women’s participation in conflict resolution.
- Ensure women and girls have food security and access to the highest attainable standard of health care.
- Address the specific needs of women and girls by improving environmental sustainability, and mitigating effects of climate change and disasters.
Goal 2: Soroptimist International will be a global voice for increasing access to education and leadership for women and girls.
Goal 2 Objectives:
- Strengthen and increase Soroptimist International’s presence as an advocate at all levels.
- Intensify activities and partnerships that raise the international profile and visibility of Soroptimist International.
- Ensure that the foundation of Soroptimist International’s global advocacy is local and global project activity.
For 2011 Soroptimist International of Helena have selected the following causes to support:
Local
- Support Koolkuna Women’s Refuge with member representation on the Eastern Region Services Network Board – www.koolkuna.org.au
- Support Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) – www.rfdswa.org.au
- SOS Day – Saturday of Service – Provide morning tea and interaction with elderly residents at Cypress Gardens High Care Facility in Greenmount

- Zig Zag Festival – Assist with organisation of street parade – http://www.zigzagfestival.org/
- Kalamunda Youth Swing Band – Provide an annual scholarship for an upcoming musician – http://www.kysb.org/

- Support The Esther Foundation
- Support Wanum Community with the collection of materials and equipment for education
- Work with the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGS) to help them gain leadership and practical skills – http://www.girlguideswa.org.au/

International
- Forwarding donated medical and other supplies to Bumi Sehat a birthing clinic in Bali – www.bumisehatbali.org
- Timor L’Este Bakhita Clinic – helping a group of women establish a sustainable poultry farm, aquaculture pond and kitchen garden
Federation (South West Pacific) Project 2010 – 2012

Quadrennial (International) Project 2007 – 2011
- Project SIerra – a Family and a Future, supporting women caring for children in extreme poverty and providing a caring secure family home for children who are alone or at risk of abandonment in Sierre Leone – www.projectsierra.org
